Edo SUBEB Supports UBEC’s Launch of SBMC-SIP and Teacher Professional Development Initiatives

The Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has endorsed the Universal Basic Education Commission’s (UBEC) recent inauguration of the School-Based Management Committee-School Improvement Programme (SBMC-SIP) and the Teacher Professional Development (TPD) programme. The launch event took place on April 7, 2025, at the UBEC Digital Resource Centre in Kado Kuchi, Abuja.

Representing Edo SUBEB at the event were Executive Chairman Barr. Mrs. Onomen Briggs; Director of Social Mobilization, Mr. Augustine Ighodaro; and Mrs. Amarachi Itenebe of the Training and Professional Development Department. Their participation underscores Edo State’s commitment to enhancing community involvement in school governance and advancing teacher capacity development.

Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, highlighted that these initiatives aim to foster community partnerships to effectively address the issue of out-of-school children and expand access to education for school-age children, while improving the teaching and learning environment.

UBEC’s Executive Secretary, Aisha Garba, emphasized the need to address the challenge of out-of-school children, noting that about 13 million children are still out of school, especially those from rural and low-income communities.

Edo SUBEB’s alignment with these national initiatives reflects Governor Monday Okpebholo’s vision of providing equitable access to quality basic education for all children in Edo State. By strengthening community engagement through the SBMC-SIP and enhancing teacher competencies via the TPD programme, Edo State aims to create a more inclusive and effective educational system. #EDOSUBEB#education#educationforall#UBEC
